Interested in becoming a DJ? Want to know more about DJ’ing as a career move? Confused by the amount of organizations purporting to offer training in this area? We have been running a DJ training school since 1991. Yes that’s right, fifteen years and over 80 courses completed with ex-students going on to play at major clubs, bars, raves and dance parties. Week 1 - Introduction to equipment and mixing

  • Learn how to mix your records using EQ

Week 5 - Mixing practice

  • Learn Key mixing
  • Learn music theory basics
  • Learn about the circle of fifths and how to key your records
  • Learn about structuring your set according to style, energy and key

Week 6 - Accapellas, effects and Serato laptop mixing

Week 7 - Ableton Live and music production

  • Learn the ins and outs of Ableton Live

Instructors

Lance Harrison
Lance Harrison is the Store Manager and Vinyl Buyer for DMC. His knowledge in music and DJing is second to none. Lance runs his own label, Pinksilver Music, where he constantly deals with International producers and DJ’s. Lance also producers his own electronic music for various labels around the world. You can find him playing his brand of techno & house at venues like FFour, Miss Libertines, 3rd Class, Brown Alley & Loop.

Dave Pham
Dave is another DMC staffer and one of Melbourne’s busiest DJs. In addition to residencies at Lounge and Ffour, he runs his own monthly minimal techno night, Nano at Miss Libertines. Dave will talk to you about running your own event and how to promote yourself at minimal cost!

DJ Flagrant
As one of Oz’s finest turntablists, a major playa in the Aussie hip hop scene and one of the first hip hop DJ’s to embrace new technology, Flagrant has continued to push the boundaries of turntablism. He stops by to show you some of the latest laptop-based DJ technology, ‘Serato Scratch Live’.

DJ Perplex
After winning the DMC DJ Championship for the last 2 years in a row, Perplex can surely claim to be Australia’s most skilful DJ. He’ll be coming in to pass on his skills on the decks and chat about making it to the World finals in London.

Les Toth
From doorman to DJ, bodyguard and actor, quite simply Les is ‘the’ legend in the Melbourne scene. He’s been DJ’ing for over 27 years and has played virtually every venue in and around Melbourne. Les stops by to chat about his wealth of industry experience and to drop a few pearls of wisdom. He passes on the information only years in the business can provide, covering all aspects of DJ’ing and surviving in the dance music business

 

THE COST: $550.00 inc GST

A non-refundable deposit of $220 secures your place on the course and the balance of $330 is payable on the first night.

All notes, equipment, records and CDs are provided. All you need to bring is yourself! No previous experience is necessary, we cover everything you need to know.
