Fabric 21: DJ Heather
DJ Heather grew up in Chicago; a city with a rich underground history and perfectly suited to a kid with a keen interest in music. Her parent's collection of LPs became the backdrop for her own explorations into music. The prevalence of all-ages clubs in Chicago were a gateway into late 80s dance music and the wealth of local radio shows, playing everything from new wave to rock and disco to hip hop, created a wide base of influences for her future DJing and production. Heather's undiluted appreciation of music has seen her develop from hip hop DJ playing rare groove, soul and funk into primarily a house DJ. It wasn't a conscious decision but a natural migration, during years spent working in record shops and developing her skills, that has taken her to countries across the globe and seen her become a resident at fabric last year. Heather has released on Seasons, 20:20 Vision, Aroma, and launches her own Blackcherry Recordings in May. She's lent her warm voice to many tracks, and has collaborations with Brett Johnson, Slater Hogan, Bobby Valentine, Miles Maeda, DJ Colette and No Assembly Required released over the coming months

Fabriclive 21 - Meat Katie
Meat Katie, aka Mark Pember, is a ceaseless devotee of 'music for music's sake'. He started out as a bass player in a number of skate-punk bands, signing to Iggy Pop's Kill City Records at seventeen. His first electronic project was Ceasefire on Wall Of Sound before going on to release his first album - a garage jazz lo-fi work featuring a variety of vocalists including Kurt Wagner (Lambchop) and alternative country star Greg Garing - as Avenue A on R&S. He began his solo Meat Katie project in 1996, releasing two albums on Kingsize, collaborating with Dylan Rhymes, Rennie Pilgrem, BLIM, Arthur Baker, Christian J, Elite Force, and Lee Coombs, and producing a ream of exciting remixes. He ran his own Whole 9 Yards label for the past decade and there's an active release schedule planned for his new label, Lot 49, where he aims to continue breaking new British talent. Currently back in the studio to finish off his third Meat Katie album alongside Elite Force, Mark will be touring all over the world later in the year.

Under the Influence: Bob Geldof
The fifth in the Under the Influence series comes from Bob Geldof. His tracklist includes early influences on the Boomtown Rats sound and his solo work (e.g. Dr. Feelgood and Max Romeo), along with a host of cuts to delight and inspire - even Cliff Richard sounds good here! The Who, New York Dolls, Roxy Music, David Bowie, Leonard Cohen, Television, Velvet Underground, Bob Dylan, The Kinks... they're all here. The album will include personally written sleevenotes by Sir Bob himself - and considering at an early stage in his career he picked up the name 'Bob the Gob' from the music press for his outspoken views, they should make interesting reading.
